A source of inspiration, exploration and beauty, nature is at the heart of our daily lives. Since our creation, we have sought out exceptional plants all over the world to offer you natural and premium quality products.
The origin of our plants
High quality plants, rigorously selected
Our plants can come either from cultivation (sowing, transplanting, cuttings), or from collection in nature by our producer partners.
To ensure their identity and especially their overall quality (foreign elements and active ingredient content), our raw materials are purchased whole.
Our supply chains are also regularly checked by our teams to ensure compliance with good collection practices. To do this, we rely on a European guideline which governs good practices for growing and collecting plants.
Once the raw material has been purchased, our laboratory applies various analytical techniques:
- Identification tests
macroscopic, microscopic, and chemical to make sure it is the right plant;
- Physico-chemical tests
allowing a check of certain parameters such as good drying, cleaning of the soil on the plant;
- Dosages of characteristic active ingredients
making it possible to assess the plant's richness in active ingredients that are beneficial for the body such as flavonoids, essential oils, anthocyanosides;
- Research for contaminants
such as pesticides, heavy metals, etc.;
- Microbiological analyses
to ensure the health compliance of the product.
The traceability of our raw materials
Highly controlled quality
100% of our plants undergo quality controls: search for contaminants, heavy metals, etc.
A certified Royal jelly
100% of our Royal jelly is certified by the Responsible Beekeeping label.
A European preference
Nearly 50% of our plants are sourced in Europe, the the majority of which in France.
Accompany and support our producers
A network of experienced suppliers
We have a very large portfolio of suppliers, built up over more than 40 years of experience and which continues to grow steadily.
These suppliers are present all over the world and can be producers, wholesalers, intermediaries, etc. They are selected for:
- The quality of their plants
- Their knowledge and love of the plant
- Their cultivation and / or harvesting methods
- Their production and collection capacity
- Their tracing capacity and strict supply controls
- Respect for the integrity of the local biotope
- Non-modification of the plant
More than signing a contract, we establish a partnership with men and women who uphold our values. It is their stories and those of the plants they cultivate or gather that we propose to tell you in a series of films, where they will play the « heroes » of Arkopharma.
Securing production relies on the selection of several sources of supply at different times of the year. Our network of suppliers is present in both hemispheres.
For example, the Red Vine is traditionally harvested in North Africa in October and November. Arkopharma has expanded its supply to South America and Spain. We thus benefit from two Red vine supplies during the year, allowing us to secure our productions.
However, the quality of the plant remains our primary sourcing criterion. Plant suppliers must therefore meet very strict specifications.
The purchase of plants in figures
About 400 tonnes go into production every year;
230 Active references
In total active references in 2013;
100% of our raw materials used in food supplements are obtained WITHOUT the use of genetic modification..
