"To be fair, you have to be responsible." Therefore, a company or organization that commits to Fair Trade for some or all products must comply with the criteria of sustainable development and implement responsible economic, social and environmental practices to respect the ESR commitments (as per the Ecocert standard).

Respect for Humans and Improvement of Living Conditions

At Arkopharma, the eight fundamental conventions of the International Labor Organization are strictly observed during production. As such, forced labor, slavery and discrimination are prohibited. Equal pay is an important principle. Fair pay enables producers to live decently. In addition, the right to organization and collective negotiations, trade union freedom and protection of rights are observed.

Respect for the Environment

The ESR standard aims to protect the biodiversity of plants and species and respects natural resources. This standard is very demanding as regards all environmental aspects, but goes well beyond this, requiring respect for natural balances, prohibiting the use of synthetic chemicals, and requiring recycling and biological control.

Creating Sustainable Relations

The sustainable partnership established between Arkopharma and suppliers upstream for the harpagophytum supply chain enables the harmonious development of producers thanks to technical support promoting their path to autonomy.

High-Quality Products

To supply products that meet requirements, fair trade tends to require respect for local traditions and the region in the manufacturing and processing methods used. This is because these products are the alliance between traditional know-how from producers and a high level of original plant quality. These products are inspected and monitored along the supply chain, from the producer to the retailer.
