This label is the results of a unique and exclusive relationship with its partners and is controlled by an acknowledged independent third-party body.
It vouches for the compliance with additional requirements to the international standard for Royal Jelly1 and the European standard for organic farming2.

The 1st Responsible Beekeeping label vouches for the compliance with additional requirements to the international standard for royal jelly[1] andthe European standard for organic farming [2] concerning the following subjects:

Premium Quality

Royal jelly with preserved purity

  • Systematic controls on Royal Jelly to verify the absence of:
    • More than 220 pesticide residues (e.g., chloramphenicol, nitrofurans, etc.).
    • Over 60 antibiotic residues.
  • Apalbumin content: 2,5%
  • 10-HDA standardization: 1.4%
  • Natural Royal Jelly, free from preservatives, colourings and chemical pesticides; 
  • Selected production areas with monitoring of air, water and soil quality;
  • Selected beekeepers with healthy farming practices, who carefully monitor bees' food reserves in winter and make sure their diet is natural or even organic (pollen, nectar, honey);
  • A new level of traceability, exceeding the most demanding standards (HACCP) for the harvesting and production chain.

Responsability of beekeepers

  • Monitoring bee mortality rate (alert threshold at 10 %) and commitment to fight its decline
  • Being free from synthetic chemicals in production areas, even for their personal use (maintenance of hives, vegetable gardens, etc.)
  • Implementing measures to prevent any domestic pollution that could harm the environment (plastic, aluminum, etc.)

Preservation of the ecosystem around the hives

  • Environmental checks within a 20 km radius around the hives.
  • No hazardous industrial activities or highways near the pollen-gathering areas.
  • No urbanised or industrial areas (incinerators, foundries, metallurgical plants, chemical industries or nuclear power plants) or busy roads around production areas.
  • Limited presence of relay antennas and high-voltage lines around the production areas.
  • Air and water quality analysis carried out each year.
  • Soil quality analysis carried out every three years.
  • Presence of sustainable agriculture areas around the hives.
Preservation of the ecosystem around the hives

Support for beekeepers

  • An ethical commitment throughout the production chain : good working conditions, fair compensation, sustainable support, etc.
  • Raising beekeepers' awareness of social and environmental issues through trainings.
  • Actions carried out at farm level to promote efficient and responsible economic development (e.g. support for research to combat the disappearance of bees, equipment, etc.).
  • Aid to beekeepers: weekly delivery of fresh fruits and vegetables, annual medical follow-up.
